Facial Aesthetics in Wesley Chapel

If you’re looking for a provider of facial aesthetics in Wesley Chapel, it might not occur to you to visit a dentist, but there’s perhaps no one more qualified when it comes to Botox and fillers!

Many people believe that they need to see a dermatologist or plastic surgeon for facial aesthetic treatments, but dentists receive advanced training in the function, anatomy, and musculature of the jaw and face as part of their dental school training. Deciding where to inject Botox® and facial fillers isn’t simply a matter of looking at the surface level of the skin – it’s about understanding the muscles underneath and how they interact with each other.

Botox® and Juvéderm® are a natural complement to any of our cosmetic dentistry treatments, providing you with a complete smile makeover. Or, you might just want to schedule a Botox® treatment after your next dental cleaning!

  • BOTOX® Cosmetic/XEOMIN®

BOTOX® uses botulinum toxins to relax the muscles, reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Botulinum toxin, a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, binds to the point where a neuron joins the muscle fiber and prevents the release of a chemical, blocking muscle contraction. BOTOX® was approved for use over 20 years ago by the FDA for the temporary treatment of moderate to severe lines and wrinkles.

In addition to cosmetic use, BOTOX® AND XEOMIN® can be used to treat TMJ disorder.

  • Fillers (JUVÉDERM®)

In addition to BOTOX®, Dr. Luz also provides injectable fillers, specifically in the areas of the lips, peri-oral area (around the lips), and cheeks. Injectable fillers reverse the effects of facial volume loss, add volume to lips and lift the cheeks, and fill wrinkles and folds.

Frequently Asked Questions About Botox and Juvéderm

How long does Juvéderm last?

Juvéderm typically lasts between four to six months, but it depends on how quickly your body metabolizes the injections.

Is Juvéderm painful?

Dr. Luz applies a topical numbing agent before injecting you with Juvéderm, but you will feel a pinch from the needle. The pain doesn’t last long; while most patients find the injections uncomfortable, it’s not unbearable!

What is Botox used for?

Botox can be used for both cosmetic and therapeutic purposes. While we all know that Botox is excellent for crow’s feet, forehead lines, laugh lines, and other facial wrinkles, Botox can also be used to treat migraines and TMJ disorder by relaxing overworked facial muscles.

How long does Botox last?

The effects of Botox usually wear off within three to six months. Botox temporarily paralyzes the facial muscles; once they begin to move again, your lines and wrinkles will return. You may notice, though, that your lines and wrinkles are a little less apparent over time even after your Botox starts wearing off.

Is it safe to get Botox from a dentist?

Yes, it’s very safe to get Botox from a dentist. We follow strict infection control protocols and Dr. Luz’s in-depth knowledge of facial anatomy gives her insight into precisely where to place injections for maximum effectiveness. Dr. Luz is a member of the American Academy of Facial Esthetics, which means she has received advanced training in administering Botox and Juvéderm.

How long does it take for Botox to kick in?

You’ll notice the full effects of your Botox injections within three to seven days. Some patients swear their injections work immediately, but it’s most likely post-injection swelling—Botox needs a few days to start working!
